ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Much like most things in the Greater New Orleans area my accounting job was gone when I came back after evacuating for Katrina.  After a few months I decided it was time to try all the arts and crafts things I had never had time for when working full time.  At first it was just something to keep me busy during the day.

I started making candles, some soaps and bath salts.   I would put them together in gift baskets for Christmas, Birthday, shower presents.  They were such big hits with my friends and family that I decided that maybe I could sell the products.  And, after a few trials and tribulations Fleur de Lisa was born.

Fleur de Lisa candles come in 3 sizes and are made from a custom soy wax blend, derived from soybeans, a renewable resource.  The candles will burn up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles.  All candles are hand poured and double scented for good fragrance throw.

The reed diffusers are made with quality base oil and reeds.  The fragrance oils used for both the candles and reed diffusers are of the finest quality and made in the USA. The packaging materials used are at least 75% recycled materials.

ABOUT THE OWNER:

I was born on Halloween in Farmington, New Mexico.  My parents moved my older sister and brother and I to Louisiana when I was 3.  We finally settled in New Orleans 5 years later.  Even though my husband and  I live in Old Metairie I still consider myself a New Orleanian – having grown up in Lakeview and lived there (and Mid-City) most of my life.

I studied ballet for 17 years and wanted to be a professional ballerina – spent a summer in France trying to achieve that goal but realized I didn’t have the “killer instinct” required – that, and I love to eat!!   I graduated from Loyola University with a BA in Political Science and a BLS in Social Science, thinking at some point I'd go to Law School.  However, I started working full time (as an accountant/office manager) and never did get to Law School.

I am the Secretary of Friends in Need, a not-for-profit that assists people financially and otherwise in times of medical crisis.  I have just started volunteering as an Ambassador at the Audubon Zoo. While I don’t always have the greenest of thumbs I love to garden.  And, by no means would I be considered a gourmet but cooking has always been one of my favorite things to do.
